About

What's behind the name:

We love the outdoors and the joy felt in nature.  We decided we wanted to surround ourselves with nature and raise our kids with a hands-on lifestyle. We wanted a simple life full of joy. This is of course easier said than done.  However, we embarked on our journey with great sacrifice.  We sold our home, left our jobs, bought property in the mountains of Washington, and started living... outdoors... or shall we say, camping? It was just us and nature.  Soon thereafter, we discovered the delicious black caps of northeast Washington (also called black raspberries).  We fell in love and our property had more than we have seen in most other places around here. We felt so blessed.  We even named our property after them.  We still love our black caps. They still grow wonderfully.  Although, the name Black Cap Farm has become deeper then a love for black caps. Black Caps are not easy to love.  Yes, they're delicious, but they have thorns as mean or worse than any blackberry I've seen in a long time. As I was picking my dear black caps the other morning, I was thinking about this and how deeply it rang true to my family's way of life.  We started out here from scratch. It was not easy.  Nothing we do seems to be easy.  But, at Black Cap Farm, we don't choose things based on whether or not it is easy. We chose based on whether or not it is worth it.  And, then, we go forward. With joy in the little parts of that journey. This is the meaning behind Black Cap Farm. The joy of living, learning, growing, and dreaming, while being willing to sacrifice along the way.
